Direct Dyes
Cheap dyes, used for dyeing cotton and other cellulosic materials

Direct dyes varying staining properties on wool, silk, polyester
Azoic Dyes

Applicable for cellulosic fibre, very bright shade can be produce

Sulphur Dyes
cheap, easy to manufacture, available in powder and soluble form.

Natural colouring dyes, various shades are found

The washing fastness is good, rubbing fastness is not good
Mordant /Chrome Dyes

Good level dying, excellent washing fastness

Acid Dyes
Anionic in nature, soluble in water
Suitable for wool, silk, polyamide, and modified acrylics.
No affinity for cotton cellulose, hence not suitable for cellulosic.
Basic Dyes
are cationic dyes.. available in powder, crystal and liquid

do not have an affinity for cellulosic fibers like cotton., good for dying acrylic fibres
Metal Complex Dyes
Excellent fastness properties such as washing, seawater, light, dry cleaning, crocking,
Suitable for wool fiber, tops, hanks and fabric.
Uniform and level dying, shading and brightening is possible
