Definition: A degenerative inflammation of the glomeruli caused by streptococcal infection
Causes
Previous infection
Auto-Immune disorder e.g Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Signs & Symptoms
Pyuria (WBC in urine
Edema
Fatigue
Oliguria (Lower in urine output)
Headache
Hematuria (Blood in urine)
Hypertension
Azotemia (Urea and creatine in the blood indicates impaired kidney function)
Proteinuria (Protein in the urine (indicates kidney damage)
Urine is smoky and dark in appearance
Complications
Retention of metabolic waste products
Impaired of kidney functions
Chronic renal failure
Medical management
Diuretics
Penicillin (Antibiotics)
Corticosteroids
Fluid restriction
Dietary restriction
Anti-Hypertensive medications
Protein low in blood
Monitor vital signs as ordered

Assist in arranging for dietary consultation
To plan a diet that includes preferred foods as allowed
Encourage pt to talk abt his or her concern
To allay anxiety
Teach pt abt acute glomerular nephritis and the prescribed management regimen
