Democracy: rights & responsibilities, the individual & the community
Although a values perspective is embedded in the core curricula & legislation internationally, values education remains one of the most neglected areas in practice.
There has been a growing interest in the learning of values - researchers visualise how young children are engages in & communicate values relating to rights, care & belongings (Hannikainen, 2015).
Accountability, efficiency & flexibility are values often used to influence pedagogy in western society today, but at the same time, values relating to democracy & care are being challenged.

The Nordic model is often connected with a social pedagogical approach, inclusive of certain characteristics - e.g. play relationships & outdoor life.

Parents are significant persons in fostering the values of their children - its is the practitioner's responsibility to maintain a good relationship between the parents & the setting.
