Organ Systems of the Body
Reproductive System
Function: Describe the role in reproduction and genetic continuity.
Male Reproductive System:
Organs: Testes, penis, vas deferens, prostate gland.
Function: Production and delivery of sperm.
Female Reproductive System:
Organs: Ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina.
Function: Egg production, fertilization, and development of the fetus.
Hormonal Regulation: Role of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.
Digestive System
Function: Breakdown of food, nutrient absorption, waste elimination.
Main Organs:
Mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine.
Accessory organs: Liver, pancreas, gallbladder.
Processes:
Digestion (mechanical and chemical), absorption, excretion.
Respiratory System
Function: Gas exchange - oxygen in, carbon dioxide out.
Pathway of Air:
Nose/mouth, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, lungs, alveoli.
Mechanism:
Breathing (inhalation/exhalation), gas exchange process in alveoli.
Circulatory System
Function: Transport of nutrients, oxygen, and waste; regulation of body temperature.
Components:
Heart: Pumping mechanism.
Blood Vessels: Arteries, veins, capillaries.
Blood: Red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, plasma.
Circulation Types:
Systemic circulation: Between heart and body.
Pulmonary circulation: Between heart and lungs.
Cross-System Connections
Interaction with Other Systems: How each system supports the others (e.g., how the circulatory system delivers oxygen from the respiratory system to the body).
Health and Disease: Common disorders or diseases affecting each system.
