- - - - Axial tilt or obliquity, is the angle between a planet's orbital plane around the sun and a it's rotational axis. In 2024 Earth has an axial tilt of about 23.5 degrees. This is a factor that hugley influences the climate of Earth itself. The axial tilt will inclfuence the severity of the seasons with the lowest tilt (22.1) having a much less severe climate then the highest tilt (24.5). As Earth orbits the sun, the different hemispheres (Northern and Southern) experience either summer or winter, characterized by longer or shorter days. Due to the stability of the Earth's tilt species have been able to survive for much longer perioeds of time.
    - - Eccentricity, is the change in the shape of Earth's orbit from a more circular shape to a more elliptical shape. Earth's orbit is an ellipse, and eccentricity measures how circular/elliptical the orbit is. It is one of the Milankovitch cycles, a three part group that incluence earth's climate through the variation of the Earth's orbit. Eccentricity takes about 100,000 years to complete a whole period and return back to the orbit's original shape. Changes in eccentricity affect the distribution of solar radiation received by Earth, inturn affecting climate patterns. Currently, Earth's orbit is characterized by low eccentricity, this is one of the reasons for the Earth's stable climate in the millenia.
    - - Precession is the slow movement of the earth's axis around an imaginary point. It is one of the three Milankovitch cycles, which affect climate patterns over long periods of time through the variation of Earth's orbit and axial tilt. The main cause of precession is the gravitational interactions between the Earth, Moon, and Sun. About every 26,000 years the Earth will complete a singular precessional cycle. During this cycle, the amount of solar radiation reaching certain latitudes will change due to the change in the orientation of the Earth's axis. Precession is a key factor in influencing Earth's climate patterns and can help scientists understand long-term climate changes and ice age cycles in history.
