Training of methods
Components of physical fitness
Aerobic Endurance
it is the ability of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems to work efficiently and supply nutrients and oxygen to maintain exercise over time.
for example walking, jogging and biking
Strength
the ability of a specific muscle or muscles group to exert a force in a single maximal contraction
for example weightlifters or formula one driver needs strong neck muscles to withstand the pressure put on their heads when going around corners fast.
Muscular Endurance
where a specific muscles or group make repeated contractions over a significant period of time against a light to moderate fixed resistance load
for example 400m, boxer repeated jab and continous press up or sit ups
Flexibility
Range of motion in all joints of the body and the ability to move a joint fluidly through its complete range of movement
for example in rugby getting lower in the scrum, which decrease the amount of injuries
Speed
it is the ability to move over a distance in the quikest possible time
for example 100m sprint and long jump
Body compostition
the amount of body fat and fat free lean body tissue an athlete has
Includes combined weight of vital organs, bones, muscles and connective tissues
for example rugby the wingers have the ability
Components of skill-related
Agility
the ability of an athlete to quickly and precisely move or change direction while maintaining control of the movement
for example a rugby player footwork (stepping) against the opposition
Balance
To maintain stability or equilibrium while performing there are two forms of balance: static & dynamic
for example a footballer sprinting with the ball
coordination
the ability to control movement of two or more body parts, smoothly and efficiently, to perform a task.
for a tennis player practice her backhand
reaction time
the time taken for a sports performer to respond to a stimulus and initiate their response.
for example, starting pistol and the sprint start in sprint event
power
the ability to produce a maximal force int he shortest possible period of time, or to generate and use muscular strength quickly
for example sprinters need power when pushing away from the blocks
Static - where the athlete is stationary for example handstand in gymnastic
Dynamic - where the athlete is moving, for example a footballer sprinting with the ball
