HUMAN ORGAN SYSTEM
Several organs work together to form a
SYSTEM
.
A group of tissues form
ORGAN
.
Living things are made of cells.
SKELETAL SYSTEM
MUSCULAR SYSTEM
EXCRETORY SYSTEM
INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
NERVOUS SYSTEM
IMMUNE SYSTEM
4 more items...
Processing information on how the body should respond; helps maintain homeostasis (balance).
CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
2 more items...
PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
1 more item...
Carries substances to cells and carries wastes away from cells.
Heart- pumps blood throughout the body.
Blood Vessels
Arteries- carries oxygen-rich blood away from the heart and to body parts.
1 more item...
Blood
Plasma-liquid part of blood
1 more item...
Helps the body take oxygen from air; removes carbon dioxide and water from the body.
nose-pharynx-trachea-bronchi- alveoli
Diaphragm- large-domed muscle used in breathing
Breaks down food into molecules
Mouth-mechaniel& chemical digestion
Esophagus- tube connecting mouth to stomach
Stomach- mechanical digestion takes place
Small intestine- chemical digestion takes place
Large intestine- water absorbed in bloodstream
Rectum- waste material is compressed into solid form
It performs in body temperature regulations, cell fluid maintenance, system of Vitamin D, detection of stimuli, protection, sensation, excretion, social function.
Epidermis- outermost layer; no nerves or blood vessels; made up of dead cells for protection.
Dermis- lower layer of skin; contains nerves, blood vessels, sweat glands, hairs & oil glands.
Collects wastes produced by cells and removes the waste from the body.
Kidneys- eliminate urea, excess water & waste materials.
Anus- removes solid waste from the digestive system.
Lungs- remove carbon dioxide produced during cellular respiration.
Skin- removes perspiration
Helps the body move; moves food through digestive system; keeps heart beating
650 muscles
MUSCLE ACTION
Involuntary Muscle- not under conscious control ex. Muscle for breathing & digesting food
Voluntary Muscles- under conscious control ex. Smiling, turning page in book, walking
TYPES OF MUSCLE TISSUE
Skeletal-attached bones & move bone using tendons
Smooth- inside internal organ
Cardiac- found in heart
Provide shape & support; helps move; produce blood cells; stores certain materials.
295 bones- new babies
206 bones- adult
Skull- protect brain
Ribs- protect heart & lungs
Vertebrate- protects spinal cord
Femur- produce blood cells in the leg
Humerus- produce blood cells in arm
Cartilage- connective tissue
Ligaments- hold bones together
Marrow- soft connective tissue found in spaces in bone.
Red marrow- produces body’s blood cells
Yellow marrow- stores fat (energy reserve)
