Aspiration of meconium in the lungs

respiratory distress to life-threatening respiratory failure
Management
immediate systematic Intubation for tracheal suction is no longer indicated
supportive care measures
Respiratory support
early instillation (before 6thhour of life) of surfactant may be indicated
Signs and symptoms
Clinically
High work of breathing
Crackles
Tachypnea
Cyanosis
Decreased apgar
ON CXR
distinguish MAS from other etiologies
hyperinflated with flattening of the diaphragms
Alveolar opacities in coarse clumps irregularly distributed
obstructive emphysema or atelectasis
