PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION - ANDRÉS LIMA

MAIN PROBLEM: The primary issue that the movie "No" focuses on is the difficulty the "No" campaign had in convincing people that they opposed General Augusto Pinochet's reign during the 1988 Chilean national referendum. The historical backdrop of Pinochet's authoritarian government and the constrictive circumstances surrounding the campaign are the main reasons of this issue:

CAUSES: The movie takes place during General Pinochet's military dictatorship, which was marked by restrictions on civil liberties, censorship, and the repression of political dissent. Because of the regime's authoritarian orientation, dissent was not accepted, which made it very difficult for any opposition movement to function freely.

BACKGROUND: The background of the issue in "No" is firmly entrenched in Chile's history of economic policies, human rights violations, military dictatorship, and the eventual chance for the people of Chile to voice their opinions on Pinochet's rule renewal through the 1988 referendum. The movie looks at the difficulties faced by change advocates in an oppressive political climate.

This movie is based in reality, the problem that is presented to reality is about the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet in the period of 1998. Augusto Pinochet was in power of the military coup since 1973 and since his mandate, the military dictatorship was present in Chile until the campaign given in 1998. The movie is called "No" because the campaign was to encourage poblation to vote "No" to the rule (dictatorship) of Pinochet. This film accurately catch the real atmosphere of this period.
