Census
Census completes every ten years
Initially a simple counting of heads, over time the census has become increasingly sophisticated and detailed
Today it includes personal information such as date of birth, gender, educational qualification, ethnicity, religion, health, welfare, housing and employment
The basic source of data is the household, a household is defined as: one person living alone or a group of people living at the same address who share facilities
Representing rural plces
Numerical data are often used to present formal and objective representations of places
A key question for collecting any special data is were the boundaries should be drawn
