Causes
Henry VIII wanted to conquer Ireland so enemy countries (like Spain and France) would not be able to use Ireland as a base to attack England

They thought that the Irish culture was barbarian, less advanced and inferior to the English one.

Causes
Following conflict between the main lords of the North (O’Donnells and O’Neills) and the English monarchy, a war began- it resulted in the defeat of the Irish lords.
The O’Donnells and O’Neills fled Ireland in 1607 to get help in Spain in The Flight of the Earls, The lands they owned were now left empty

The confiscated land included: Donegal, Derry, Cavan, Tyrone, Fermanagh and Armagh
