Descriptive Statistics - Coggle Diagram

- - - - Variance - Definition: The average of the squared differences from the mean. σ²
        Interpretation: Tells you how spread out the data is, but because it's based on squared units, it's not in the same units as the original data.
      - Standard Deviation
        
        Definition: The square root of the variance. or The standard deviation is simply the average distance from the mean. σ
        
        Interpretation: Also measures spread, but it returns to the original units, making it easier to understand and interpret compared to variance
        
        Large SD = big spread. Small SD = small spread
        
        In a symmetric distribution, most numbers (roughly 68%) will be
        within 1 SD away from the average
      - used when the mean is the most appropriate measure of centre (normally distributed data)
    - - Quartiles divide the data into four equal groups
      - The IQR is typically used to describe the spread of data that are not symmetrically distributed
