PARTIES - 'Evaluate the view that there are big differences between the Labour and Conservative parties over policies and ideas'
PARA ONE: WELFARE
LABOUR: New Labour
Starmer: Cutting disability benefits which reinforces the idea that benefits are a hand 'up' not a hand 'out.' The left of the party are very upset about these decisions but Reeves' argument is that this will incentivise people to get back into the workplace

PARA TWO: ECONOMY
-
-
CAVEAT: Kemi Badenoch is taking a more new-right approach to the economy with her shadow cabinet. She is critical of net zero for example.
-
INTRO: Apart from ideas about social justice, both parties have strayed from their idealogical roots enough that they have met in the middle nowadays with economic policies. Governments like that of Thatcher's or Atlee's have changed the economic climate and forced opposition to accept this. It must be acknowledged however that while Labour are taking a more centrist stance, the Tories are moving more right with Kemi Badenoch in order to appeal to reform voters.
