NA men had to leave to fight in the war. It was the first time such large numbers of NAs left their reservations
Those who remained on the reservations suffered as resources were being redirected to the war instead of NA fundings

When the war ended, returning Indian soldiers were forced to return to reservations from discrimination, and were not able to take advantage of educational opportunities offered to white veterans
Many factory workers remained, but the majority were driven back to reservations because of discrimination
