Idler gear
An Idler gear changes the direction of the driving gear. it does not affect the gear ratio.

gear ratio
Driver gear has the motor attached and the driven gear is the gear being driven. machine gears will always rotate in opposite directions. This is the ratio of movement between two gears. The gear ratio is calibrated using the formula below first the number of teeth of the two gears must be counted.

When calculating gear speed, you need to know the number of teeth on each of the meshing gear and the speed of the motion on the driven gear.
