What is Morquio Syndrome?
Morquio syndrome is a disease that affects the bone growth, abnormalities, and symptoms that will eventually get worse the older you get
It is a rare disease and it's also known as Mucopolysaccharidosis IV
Morquio Syndrome is estimated to occur in 1 of every 200 000 births. The disease is not always visible at birth
The symptoms of Morquio Syndrome doesen't always affect certain people as much as others. So everyone will have a different severity of the synonyms (Age is also a part of it)
Who will Morquio Syndrome most likely affect?
Morquio Syndrome is extremely likely to affect babies/kids when both of there parents have the disease
Morquio Syndrome can affect anyone but if both parents were born with Morquio Syndrome it is almost guaranteed to be passed down to there children
It is most likely to affect people who have family members or relatives who were also born with the disease
Where does it affect the body?
It can also affect the facial features
Some of the symptoms are knock knees, short height, heart and vision problems, and enlarged liver, Scoliosis or kyphosis, curved spine, etc
It is a condition that affects the bones growth
When do you realize you have Morquio Syndrome?
You usually find out you have Morquio Syndrome between 1 and 3 because you start to notice symptoms around that age
If both parents already know they have Morquio Syndrome then they will have a pretty good idea if there child will have Morquio Syndrome or not
Morquio Syndrome is usually not always spotted at birth because when you are born you normally don't have super noticeable symptoms/abnormalities of the disease
How do you get Morquio Syndrome?
Morquio Syndrome can only be inherited at birth and when both parents have were born with Morquio Syndrome
Morquio Syndrome happens because the bodies enzymes can't break down sugar molecules. The condition cannot be cured but can be treated to manage symptoms
If you have Morquio Syndrome at birth it doesn't necessarily mean that both your parents Morquio Syndrome symptoms affect themas much. So basically it means that sometimes your parents will give you the disease but they don't experience as much of the symptoms like you do
