Sun considered nationalism vital
Despite his lasting influence as a revolutionary leader, Sun lacked the authority and military support to secure national unity
Without an established national army, Sun utilized regional armies
The most powerful army was controlled by General Yuan Shikai
Sun turned the presidency to him in order to reunify China after he was unable to defeat Yuan

People's rights - democracy
People's livelihood - econmonic security for all Chinese
What event triggered Civil War in China?
General Yuan betrayed the democratic ideals of the revolution and died
What were the main weaknesses of the New Republic?
Sun wasn't able to unify China without an established national army
china was an absolute bandwagon and saw that germany was losing. The chinese wanted their territory back, so they figured that declaring war on germany would end up with the allies giving them like 2 sqft back
but the treaty of versailles gave that land to the japanese
the chinese were not fans of that, so they may fourth movement was a giant protest that happened in china i guess (mostly students before spreading to other places)
and then a bunch of people decided that democracy and Sun Yixan was lame and that they should all be lenin fans instead (much cooler)
Weaknesses of the new republic: 1) no unification 2) no central, established idea of a government 3) communism unproven in the long term 4) big nationalism and big argue (smells like civil war) 5) most of the average communism fans being youth and the weakest democracy enjoyers being in the army is kind of sort of setting the stage for bloodshed. But only kind of. I made that up.
