Section 18 provides
that it applies to a document, or part of, that

The document forms a will, or alteration of a will of the deceased person if the court is satisfied that the person intended the document to form the person's will
In making the decision under ss (2), the court may, in addition to the document or part, have regard to

b. any evidence of the person's intentions, including evidence of statements made by the person

This section applies to a document, or part of, whether the document came into existence within or outside the State

Where a will does not meet the formal requirements contained in s10 of the Act, it may be saved by the operation of s 18 of the Act.
