'history of the isles' game
art style
hyper realism
has a calmer aesthetic to it, making it more compatible with the Victorian Britain style I've decided to go for
taking a hyper realistic approach for the art style would give the game more of a realistic but artsy feel to it, also it'd be contribute more significantly toward the appeal from a younger target audience, considering that most game nowadays are in this style
painting/watercolour
this art style matches nicely to the Victorian Britain theme because it has a sort of retro look to it, also when the viewer sees this type of loading screen they can probably expect the game to be quite historian, and full of creative styles. I'm also planning on going for a more relaxed game, instead of some type of shooting game.
logo
this would be the base of the games logo, though instead of black id probably choose either a light or dark green to show strategy and that this game may also include puzzles, or i may use a dark or light purple to represent that this will be an adventure game
personally i think this would be a good asset to use in the games logo, mainly because it shows off that the theme of this game is Victorian, and also that its dedicated to the earlier ages of Britain
I'm considering also using this as a logo base for the game logo design, then placing text on the bottom and the top of it, also id either add the outline I already have, or instead I may choose to do a wanted poster design, but either design I choose it will have a more Victorian era style to it by using a scroll/retro poster style, as this is something that would've existed within that era
visual identity
shapes
shapes used in my final design involve mainly squares, for the silhouette of the person I mainly used organic shapes. the shapes in the midnight games design is important because it gives the player and viewers a certain way that they look and view the brand/company of midnight games. all of this being important mainly because its targeted toward a younger age group in which have different viewpoints and interests compared to an older target audience.
typography
the typography use within me designs will be subjected mainly to be kept minimalistic and simple, in order not to overcomplicate anything nor make it confusing or uninteresting, because in order to make a logo/design the best it can possibly be, it has to be able to catch the attention of the target audience its being designed/purposed for.
colours
the colours used in a design are mainly important because that's what will be noticed/viewed first by all the players and people who are interested in buying it, for example my design will be including some more neutral colours, in order to not look nor give a childish aesthetic, because personally I think that if a company design looks to childish then people aren't going to feel to enticed to buy their games nor want to give it to their teens.
fonts
this one is a good candidate, mainly because of the bold and posh style of it, meaning it shows more of the authentic Victorian style instead of any overdramatic cursive letterings, also the letters themselves do flow better, which works nicer with a game logo, as it wouldn't be as hard to read for the viewer.
this font on the other hand probably isn't as suitable for the games logo, as it isn't the easiest font to read and also the letters are naturally quite small, though it is a good Victorian style font, I personally just don't think it has as much potential as the others, so I am including this on my mind map as a sort of guide as to which fonts to avoid using for a better visual
the main reason for choosing these fonts would be that posses a Victorian and sophisticated style to them, meaning they would suit the theme quite well, also it would look nice in the words 'midnight games'
this font has a more bolder design to it and with more tails and flicks to the letters, which can both be good and bad because it the style of it may make it a little harder to read, though that seems to be the case with most Victorian styled fonts and letterings.
these two fonts would work nicely with the Victorian theme, as they both have a retro yet classy style, making them both suitable for the game logo. they both have quite dramatic lettering as well which I think would be best for the font choice as this game will be full of adventure and history, so these would hopefully emphasise that
using this font choice would also suit the style and design of my final logo, considering that its based on a Victorian styled old poster, that means it will give it that handwritten look and effect to it, though the words and quite big individually, meaning that it'll take up more space than the others, and i would prefer to avoid overcrowding the logo to avoid making it look complicated
target audience
this game is particularly targeted towards a younger range of people, it has a PEGI rating of 12
because it has this rating, typically we consider using easier assets and language for better understanding instead of making things complicated and difficult to understand. for example using smoother and flowing shapes and avoiding colours such as grey or anything that might not strike their interest, though with my logo even though there is a usage of the colour black in it, considering the players will be 12 and upwards it wont be such a concern about them disliking it because their typically interested in any colour, just as long as the game seems interesting
slogan
the slogan for this game is 'welcome to these lands. fortune favours the brave'
personally I think this is a good slogan because it informs you of what is to be done in the game, its also implying that there is treasure and that along the way you will have to be brave and adventurous in order to get it
other designs
this colour could mainly be used for other assets in the logo design, such as smaller details and other additional things within the design, such as different shapes.
this design would include a royal looking key, which the words 'history of' will start at the top of the key on the left, then the words 'the isles' will appear at the bottom right of the key
for the design involving this, the words 'history of the isles' could be written on there and then the shadows of the words could be reflected onto the material
