Team types
Parallel teams
Composed of members from various jobs who provide recommendations to managers about important issues that run “parallel” to the organization’s production processes.
Project teams
Take on “one-time” tasks that are generally complex and require a lot of input from members with different types of training and expertise.
Management teams
Participate in managerial-level tasks
that affect the entire organization
Action teams
specialized teams that focus on producing a product or a service through highly coordinated actions.
Work teams
Members have autonomy in defining their roles
in decision making.
Focus on the accomplishment
of core operational level production and service tasks.
Members work together to
produce goods and provide services.
Team interdependence
In teams, the members depend on each other outcomes.
The degree team members interact with and rely on other team members for the information, materials, and resources needed to accomplish work for the team.
6 types
Sequential Interdependence
Different tasks are done in a prescribed order, and the group is structured (members specialize in these tasks)
Reciprocal Interdependence
Members are specialized to perform specific
tasks, interact with a subset of other members to complete the team's work.
Pooled Interdependence
Group members complete work independently then this work is simply “piled up” to represent the group’s output.
Comprehensive Interdependence
Members have a great deal of discretion in terms of what they do and with whom they interact in the course of the collaboration involved in accomplishing the team’s work.
Goal Interdependence
Team members have a shared vision of the team's goals.
Outcome Interdependence
Team members share in the rewards that the team earns.
Team composition
Makeup of a team in terms of the roles, skills, and expertise of its members.
