Bullying
WHY do people bully?
they have some insecurity (not confident of themselves)
they feel alone because they do not have friends
for enjoyment
suffering from some illness or have some disability so they want to have some control over something in their life
being influenced by friends/family to bully
having family problems so they want to vent their anger on something or someone
being bullied by others elsewhere
WHAT are the types of bullying?
Verbal
Hurting or shaming others with the use of spoken words
threatening, using vulgarities/profanities on a person, insulting, mocking, ridiculing (make fun of).
Social
Harming other people's relationships or reputation.
criticise a person, distance themselves from the victim, ignore/exclude/avoid the victim, spread gossip or lies
Physical
Defintion
Deliberately using force to aggressively attack a person or their belongings.
punching / kicking / slapping, stealing / hiding / breaking belongings, slashing, walking in an aggressive manner to intimidate (to cause fear), intentionally tripping to make someone fall (sticking out one's leg)
Cyberbullying
Using electronic means to bully a person.
leaving mean comments on social media, threaten them, post embarrassing pictures/videos (edited or not) online.
What can we do when we are bullied or witness a bullying?
reasoning with bullies to help them realise that they are hurting people and what they are doing is wrong
keep a record of the incident (video, take screenshots)
tell a teacher or trusted adult
keep calm and walk away (removing onself from the situation)

WHAT are the consequences?
Victim
getting hurt/injured
long-lasting impact on mental health (e.g. depression, anxiety issues)
e.g. refusal to attend school out of fear of being bullied, develop distrust in people because they did not help them
become future bullies
Bully
increased risk of committing crime
experience difficulties finding/holding a job because of poor attitude/behaviour
potentially abuse their own family members (domestic abuse)
