        Types of protists
        
        Fungus-like
        
        Fungus-like protists cannot usually move on their own and get nutrients by absorbing materials around them. They also produce spores that are used in reproduction. These spores can survive through harsh conditions. ex: Slime molds.
        
        Plant-like
        
        Plant-like protists are producers which make their own food using the process photosynthesis. Single-celled, free floating, plant-like protists are a main part of the ocean's phytoplankton. Multicellular plant-like protists are called algae. ex: red algae, green algae, diatoms, euglena, brown algae, and volvox.
        
        Animal-like
        
        They cannot make their own food, instead they get nutrients by
        ingesting other organisms. Most of these protists can move around their environment. The structures used for movement are also used to help these protists get food. Cilia sweep food toward a paramecium's food passageway. Amoebas use their pseudopods to engulf their food.
  - - - Contains multicellular organisms that
        lack cell walls. They do not have chloroplast like
        Plants and algea. So they must get nutrients by
        consuming other organisms.
        
        They are heterotrophic. They have specialized sense
        organs and most animals can move around.
        
        Birds, fish, reptiles, amphebians, insects, and mammals
        are just a few example of animals.
        
        Most animals reproduce sexually, but few reproduce sexually, such as budding.
        
        Characteristics of animals
        
        Many Cells
        All animals are multicellular. Animals cells are eukaryotic, so they have a nucleus. All of the cells work together to perform the life functions of the animal.
        
        Specialized Parts
        The cells in an animal develop into different types of cells. Which is differentiation. Each types of cell has a special function to play in an organism.
        
        Movement
        Most animals can move. Some animals move to find shelter, food, and mates. Some animals move during only one part of their life cycle.
        
        Reproduction
        Most animals use sexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction leads to genetically diverse offspring. Some animals can reproduce asexually. Offspring of asexual reproduction are genetically identical to their parent.
        
        Consume food
        Animals are consumers. Animals cannot produce their own food.
        Some animals eat plants or animals, and some eat both plants and animals.
        
        Maintain body temperature
        To function well, animals need to maintain their body temperature through homeostasis. ex: birds, humans. Other animals cannot maintain their body temperature so they rely on their environment. ex: Lizard.
