Energy sources are natural resources from which we obtain different forms
of energy that can be transformed for a specific use.
We can classify energy sources in several ways:
3) By use in each country
2) By origin
1) By availability in nature and capacity for regeneration
4) By environmental impact
2. Electricity
It can be easily transformed into other forms of energy, such as light and heat.
It can be transported long distances inexpensively and with very little energy being lost
Electric power plants
How an electric power plant works?
Steam boilers burn fuel to heat water and produce steam. This steam is then channeled through a turbine, where it turns the blades and generates electricity.
Transport and distribution of electrical energy
Electricity cannot be stored, therefore, it must be transported to
consumption centres.
3. Conventional electric power plants
Nuclear power plants
Uranium is the main fuel used
Fossil fuel thermal power plants
Water is heated in a boiler by the heat
generated from the combustion of a fossil fuel, usually natural gas or coal.
Hydroelectric power plants
This type of power plant uses the potential energy provided by the height of the stored water in a dam, converting it into kinetic energy.
4. Non-conventional electric power plants
Non-conventional or alternative
energy power plants were created due to the environmental problems.
Geothermal power plant
Solar power plants
The main disadvantage
of these power plants is that they produce much less energy.
Their advantages
are that they almost do not contaminate, as they use natural and renewable resources.
