Why was the first battle of the Marne so significant?
It enabled the French to continue the war. It took a lot of of strategy.
The Conflict Grinds Along
Germany's battle strategy known as the Schlieffen Plan defeated France in the west and the rushing the east to fight Russia
German leaders needed a quick victory over France to end the supply chain that was keeping France alive in this war.
By early September the German forces has swept into France, it looked like the Germans were going to be victorious. On September 5th however, the Allies regrouped and caught the German groups off guard and were able to defend France and keep Paris alive.
