Defense Mechanisms
Displacement
We get a concrete example of displacement when one Esen employee assaults another after Emilie asks him to tidy Dalmat's office.
The fact that the HRD puts all the blame on Emilie is also a form of displacement.
Projection
When Emilie gives her husband a mock interview, she projects everything she has onto herself and onto her heart.
Denial
Denial is also present when Emilie remains convinced at the beginning of the film that she had nothing to do with Dalmat's death.
Rationalisation
We can see this phenomenon at the beginning of the film when they try to find personal, rather than professional, reasons for Dalmat's act.
Alcohol
At one point in the film, Emilie can't hold on any longer. She goes to a bar and drinks a lot. This allows her to free her speech and her conscience.
Repression
Emilie uses repression a lot. This can be seen when she flees the office to pick up her child from school. Here she's trying to bury her emotions.
Esen's management also seems to be concerned, as they seem completely unconcerned about the death of one of their employees.
Personnal feedback
HR
Personally, I find 'Corporate' a poignant reflection on the crucial role of HR professionals in managing interpersonal relations within organisations.
The film highlights the need for an empathetic and proactive approach to preventing employee well-being crises and maintaining a healthy working environment.
My future working life
QSE Profession
This film reinforces my idea of working in the environment and not in QSE. It would be hard for me to take responsibility for human accidents.
I've been able to see that working in a company with values that reflect my own will be essential for me.
Human Factor
The film "Corporate" forcefully highlights the devastating effects of work-related stress on the psychological well-being of individuals, underlining the critical importance of the human factor in a corporate environment where constant pressure can have dramatic consequences for employees' personal and professional lives.
I know that I'll have to take what I learn on this course into account in my future.

Human relations
Concern for Well-Being
Wellness has no place at Esen. The emphasis is on efficiency and hard work.
Internal communication
Internal communication is deliberately limited. This can be seen in Emilie's refusal to make appointments to talk to various employees.
Uncertaintly about the future
The management methods employed make Esen a company where the future is uncertain. All the employees are afraid of being forced to leave their jobs.
Participation in decision-making
Employees are not involved in the company's decisions. All directives come from above.
Recognition of efforts / results
Employees are not rewarded for their efforts. This only applies if it serves management's vision.
Emilie's work was recognised, right up to the moment of the incident.
Relations
Superiors
Relations with superiors are rather conflictual. Live, they pretend everything is fine, only to speak ill of them in private.
Colleagues
At first the employees stay individual, just hoping not to be next on Emilie's list.
But after the tragedy, they start to band together and stand up for each other.
Support
Colleagues
Most employees stay to themselves and don't support each other. On the other hand, if it means opposing Emilie, then they defend each other.
Superiors
There is no visible support from superiors. Emilie only shows solidarity towards Sophie, her assistant. She doesn't get any at all, as Froncart wants to blame her for the accident.
Harrassment and bullying
Emilie is continually scorned by the other Esen employees. Her work and all that it entails mean that she is not appreciated in the office.
What's more, she is increasingly intimidated by her boss into taking full responsibility for the accident.
Work/family balance
For Emilie, the balance between her personal and professional life is out of kilter. Her work eats away at her free time, and sometimes she doesn't come home in the evening, choosing to sleep in her car. We can see that she separates the two by the time she takes to talk to her husband about her worries.
Respect
In Esen, respect is only feigned. Emilie doesn't really respect the employees whose files she manages, who don't respect her in return.
You'd think the HR manager would respect her, but he only appreciated her work, not her as a person.
Management techniques
Management efectiveness
Given Emilie's relationship with her subordinates and her manager, we can assume that there is a lack of communication and trust at all levels of management.
Organisational Justice
There is no real organisational justice, and employees feel betrayed by management decisions.
Control and predictability of workload
Employees can't really predict their workload. We see this in particular after Dalmat's death, when his tasks are reassigned and his office has to be emptied.
Decision-making latitude
Esen's hierarchy seems very vertical, with decisions being taken from the top down without the people concerned having any say in the matter.
Development of skills
As Esen doesn't try to keep its employees, even if they are efficient, we can't really talk about skills development.
Development prospects
Although this point was not discussed very much, mention was made at one point of employees who had been in the same job for years, doing an excellent job, but who were not being offered any career development, or were even being asked to leave.
Mental workload
Employees' mental workload does not seem to be an important issue for Esen. Employees hide their emotions until they break down, which can lead to violence. Emilie is completely overwhelmed emotionally, without any support. The HR Director doesn't seem to be very concerned about these incidents.
Adaptation constraints
The necessary adaptation to Didier's disappearance has been completely imposed on the department's various employees. It's easy to imagine that they often have to undergo this kind of sudden adjustment.
Physical and environmental hardship
The jobs shown on screen are not physically demanding, and the working environment is fairly acceptable. However, for some employees pushed to leave, isolated and partitioned offices are noticeable.
Change management
This must be one of the least respected parts of the film. Indeed, the very concept of the action plan put in place by Emilie consists of proposing only changes that are impossible to accept.
