What is Article 5?
Article 5 of the NATO treaty states that an armed attack against any member in Europe or North America is considered an attack against all members. Consequently, each member will take necessary actions, including the use of force, to help the attacked member restore and maintain security. This assistance ends when the UN Security Council takes measures to restore international peace and security.
