Specialised Cells
Muscle cell
Adaptations- contains protein fibres to make the cells shorter and contains lots of mitochondria to release energy
-
Red Blood Cell
Adaptations- no nucleus to carry more oxygen, increased surface area and contains haemoglobin that binds to oxygen molecules
-
Nerve Cell
Adaptations- branched endings (dendrites) to make connections and myelin sheath increases transmission speed of electrical impulses
-
Root Hair Cell
Adaptations- long projection speeds up the absorption of water and mineral ions by increasing the surface area and lots of mitochondria to release energy
-
-
-
Two types of cells
-
Eukaryotic
Animal cells contain: cell membrane, nucleus, mitochondria, ribosomes and cytoplasm
-
-
Plant cells contain: cell membrane, nucleus, mitochondria, ribosomes, cytoplasm, permanent vacuole, chloroplasts and cell wall
Diffusion
-
-
Factors which affect the rate- difference in concentration, temperature and surface area of the membrane
-
-
Osmosis
-
-
Diffusion of water from a dilute solution to a concentrated solution through a partially permeable membrane
-
