- - - - When you are rich you can't lose. In terms of Annie and Frank, they came from wealth and no matter how far they fall they'll never hit the ground. Annie doesn't do anything but drugs and she lives a completely fine life since her family is rich. Frank failed the bar exam but got a good job anyway because his family is rich. Life isn't fair for the poor.
- - - - There is also a sense of worth in growing as a person. Emma at the beginning of the novel was naive and believed she couldn't do wrong. Specifically she thought she could play cupid but it ended horribly with Mr. Elton actually loving her rather than Harriet. Emma however, grows and eventually realizes by novels end that she isn't the perfect match maker. This realization brings her joy in knowing she will be a better person and Harriet has a real chance at authentic love.
    - - Stephen Blackpool, the working class man framed for a robbery, has an extremely complex life outside of being that middle class worker. He faces his own struggles including a unhappy marriage, not being able to be with the woman he truly loves, and simply just living in a bad time. In these struggles we never see Stephen contemplating what life is worth or why he does it. He simply does.
        
        Sissy is also added to the story, straight from the circus, filled with creativity. She is a character unlike any others, one that knows how to love and have appreciation for little things. She played a crucial role in helping the Gradgrind family stray away from facts and move towards creativity and love.
    - - Peter constantly thinks back to every event of his past. Thinking about if him and Clarissa would've dated, wondering if he made the right decisions in life, and lost opportunities he may have had. Though Peter wishes more of his life he actively attempts to get more and isn't kept down too long when feeling regret.
        
        Mrs. Dalloway throughout the novel is very attentive to really everything. She understands that she is almost the shadow of Richard, however she actively attempts to make a name for herself. She, like Peter, thinks back to younger times and often recognizes the significance of small things throughout her life. She does ultimately come to the conclusion that nothing really does matter and her big party doesn't mean much, but she is able to enjoy small things in life.
    - - The main concern of the novel turns into the preservation of the Earth's current state at whatever cost necessary. Bodkins and Keran's put their lives on the line to resubmerge London and destroy the progress made by Strangman and the Riggs. The believe the earth must devolve back to the prehistoric eras and humans have no part in this transformation. The fate of Earth is to devolve.
    - - Haroon by novels end also realizes he has been living a superficial life by putting on a fake Indian accent for the manipulation of white English men. He decides to quit his job and really focus on Philosophy and his inner self.
