        " Nothing impossible with God" Luke 1 vs 37 " It is about the greatness of God, not the significance of man. God made man small and the universe big to say something about himself " John Piper. shows how God is able to do anything he wants to achieve, he omnipotent in his physical power but also in his good and love for others. He uses his power to treat everyone with love and respect. His power is unlimited and he is ultimately bigger than us.
      - love - God's love can be shown in his treating everyone with care and respect, sending God's son Jesus to earth and miracles. God's love is unlimited and the most important.
        
        " God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 and the feeding of the 5000, shows Jesus cares fro everybody and he will put our needs before his.
        
        If God loved us why do we suffer? Jesus who is God suffered, and it shows that it is a part of life. It brings Christians closer to God because they can understand that it is part of Gods plan and there are better things to look forward too
      - justice - is the act of right and wrong, whats fair and equal according to the law. God is a judge, he gives people chances and if you follow him he will reward you but if you disobey him you will be punished.
        
        " the eyes of the lord are in every place, watching the evil and the good " Proverbs 15:3. shows God is omnipresence, shows how God is a judge and will not allow people to treat other unfairly as they will be punished.
  - - - " In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void: and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said ' let there be light; and there was light" genesis 1:1-3
        
        God created through his word e.g. " let there be light, and there was light"
        
        then it states" Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters" Genesis 1:2
        
        Christians see this as reference the 3rd person. The holy spirit. shows God in action, transforming chaos into order.
      - message - God is the sole, omnipotent creator. he is the source of everything in the universe and sustains it. he created an ordered world. humans are created in Gods image, so they reflect Gods capacity for creativity and relationship.
        
        importance - Christians believe that the message in genesis 1 is true and they live in an ordered world created and sustained by God. the universe does not exist by chance and it has a meaning and purpose. this encourages Christians to adopt a positive approach to life, when things go wrong they don't ignore the issue but think things through and act on their beliefs.
    - - The word refers to Jesus. this is because it shows that Jesus was there as well as the holy trinity. Shows how Jesus is actually God.
        
        " In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made: without him nothing was made that has been made" John 1:1-3
        
        This could refer to the second person in the Trinity, both the Word and the Son of God, so God ad Jesus are one.

      - " the body that is sown perishable, is raised imperishable.. it is sown a natural body and raised a spiritual body" 1 Corinthians 15:42,44
      - Roman Catholics - believe ion purgatory. immediate state of existence between death and the afterlife. place of purification of the soul so it can become pure and holy to enter heaven. not a physical place.
      - impact - means life after death is real. gives hope of a future life with Jesus. gives confidence in the face of death. shows Christians how much God loves them. inspires Christians to live life in a way God wants them too so they can remain in his presence in this life and the next.
      - " and if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead... for as in Adam all die, so in Christ will be made alive" 1 Corinthians 15:14,20,22
        
        shows Christianity would not exist without the resurrection and is significant evidence of the divine nature of Jesus.
      - different views - some believe a person's soul is resurrected soon after death, others some time in the future when Jesus will return to judge everyone that has ever lived. some believe it's only spiritual. Catholic and Orthodox believe both spiritual and physical.
      - significance - shows power of good over evil and life over death. means Christians sins will be forgiven if they follow god's will in life. will be resurrected if they follow Jesus so there is no need to fear death.
  - - - but would a loving God do this? some people see it as an eternal state of mind and cut off from the possibility of God. a sense of waiting for someone who did not follow his teachings.

    - - being accepted by God and being assured of eternal life. salvation repaired the damage caused by sin, which separated people from God. Christians believe salvation comes from good works and grace. faith and obeying Gods law, and a gift of Gods love.

  - - - Jesus crucifixion made up for the original sin of A and E. the death as an innocent man was needed to restore the relationship between God and believers to bring them salvation. Jesus resurrection shows the goodness of Jesus defeated the evil of sin. this shows proof that God accepted Jesus's sacrifice on behalf of humankind. Jesus resurrection means humans can now receive forgiveness for their sins. Jesus death and resurrection made it possible for all who follow him to gain eternal life.
    - - removes the effects of sin and allows people to restore a relationship with God, Christians believe Jesus took the sins for all of humanity on himself and paid the debt for all. he atoned sins for humanity. made it possible for everyone to receive eternal life with God
        
        " if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father - Jesus Christ, the Righteous one, He is atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the world" 1 John 2:1 -2

- - - - why do Christians worship? to praise and thank God, to ask for forgiveness, to seek God's help for themselves or others, to deepen their relationship with god and strengthen their faith.
        
        liturgical worship
        
        set structure. takes place in a church. formal prayers. bible passages. hymns. eg Eucharist for Catholic, Orthodox and Anglican Churches. this is important for C because it's a worldwide set order for service that is familiar to everyone. rituals are passed down generations so gives a sense of tradition. bible readings follow christian calendar and teach history and faith.
        
        non liturgical worship
        
        does not follow set service or rituals. takes place in a church. bible readings followed by sermon. may have prayers, no set order. eg services in non conformist churches eg baptist. this is important to C because services can be planned and ordered to suit a certain theme and non conformist churches emphasise the word of God in the bible.
        
        informal worship
        
        type of non liturgical. is spontaneous. often community or house churches meet in private homes and share food. Quaker worship is mainly silent so people can speak when they feel moved by God and offer their thoughts or read from the bible. may involve dancing, clapping. eg Quaker worship is led by the spirit. this is important for C because the worship in homes is similar to the worship of early C. people can share readings and prayers in an active way without needing professional training. may have an emotional impact with a personal feeling of revelation with God.
  - - - Lords prayer - importance. when Jesus disciples asked him how to pray he answered in the Lord's prayer. C sees it as a model of a good prayer as it combines praise to God and asking for their needs. reminds C to forgive others in order to be forgiven. and reminds them that G is the father of the whole Christian community. can create a sense of unity in a community when everyone says it together. used in worship, holy communion and schools.
  - - - catholic and orthodox C see 7 sacraments - baptism, confirmation, holy communion, marriage, holy orders, reconciliation and anointing of the sick.
      - protestant churches see 2 sacraments - baptism, holy communion because they believe Jesus taught people to undertake these.
      - some churches don't believe baptism is a sacrament. Quakers and the salvation army do not see any ritual as being a sacrament.
    - - infant baptism
        
        practised by catholic, orthodox, Anglican. why? removes og sin, allows child to be welcomes into church as soon as possible. parents can thank God for their new baby and celebrate with family or friends. how? priest pours blessed water over baby head and says ' i baptise you in the name of..'. then the godparents/ parents promise to bring up their child as a christian, and child is welcomed into community.
      - believers baptism
        
        practised by baptists, pentecostalists. why? people are old enough to make a mature decision on their faith, the decision to live a life dedicated to Jesus is what saves them not the baptism. how? A person is fully immersed into a pool which symbolises the cleansing of sin and rising to a new life in Christ. A person is asked if they are willing to change their lives and they give a brief testimony. A person is baptised 'in the name of... '
  - - - Iona - island off coast of Scotland. where St Columba established a monastic community in the 6th century AD. pilgrims now has a community centre where pilgrims can stay. it is very peaceful and quiet, many spend their time praying, reading the bible and reflecting. can also attend services in abbey church, worships and historic sites in the island.
      - Lourdes- town in France. Mary is said to have appeared by visions of a girl called Bernadette. M told B to dig a whole in the ground and when she did a spring of water appeared. water is believed to have healing properties so lots of miracles have been claimed to happen here. many go to bathe in waters of the spring, help pilgrims who are ill or disabled to bathe. also pray for healing or forgiveness, may recite a rosary) string of beads to count each prayer ) together

    - - begins with holy week - week before Easter Sunday, remembers the events coming up to his crucifixion
      - good Friday - day he was crucified, special services and processions led by person carrying a cross
      - on the Saturday night - some churches hold special services to celebrate his resurrection, orthodox walk with candles in procession then enter dark church as if they are going into Jesus empty tomb. Catholics and Anglicans have a vigil (awake during sleep time ) happens in darkness, before the paschal candle is lit to symbolise the rising of Christ. service ends with holy communion.
      - on Easter Sunday, churches are filled with flowers and special hymns are sung to rejoice Jesus resurrection, services held at sunrise and breakfast includes eggs to symbolise new life
      - " Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life" traditional orthodox hymn at Easter

  - - - catholic, orthodox and some Anglicans - believe bread and wine become the body and blood of Christ. Jesus is fully present in the bread and wine. helps believers share the sacrifice of his death and resurrection
      - protestant C celebrates holy communion as a reminder of the Last Supper. bread and wine is a symbol of Jesus sacrifice which helps believers reflect on its meaning today
      - " For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lords death until he comes" 1 Corinthians 11:26
    - - individuals- C receive Gods grace by joining in the sacrifice of Jesus, helps strengthen their faith and become closer to God
      - communities - brings community of believers together in unity by sharing bread and wine. can provide support and encouragement for those going through a difficult time.
      - wider society - acts as a call to love others in practical ways. encourages C to work fro equality and justice for all. many churches collect money to give to the poor
    - - Orthodox divine liturgy - believed to recreate heaven on earth, lots of service is held at the altar behind iconostasis, screen that represent divide between heaven and earth. priest passes through iconstasis using the royal doors
        
        liturgy of word - hymns, prayers, bible reading. The priest comes through royal doors to chant the gospel. may be a sermon. liturgy of the faithful - priest receives bread and wine made by church members, prayers offered for church, local community and world. behind iconostasis, priest says the words of Jesus at the Last Supper. bread and wine is made as blood and body of Christ. The priest distributes holy bread and wine on a spoon. prayers of thanks. spare bread is given to people to take home as a sign of belonging to C community.
      - catholic and Anglican churches - similar. but Catholics they believe bread and wine turn into body and blood of Christ but Anglicans believe Jesus is only present spiritually when bread and wine are being eaten.
        
        liturgy of word - 3 bible readings, psalm and homily. the creed is said. prayers are said for church, local community, world and sick or dead. The liturgy of eucharist - in Anglican, people give a sign of peace to each other. offerings of bread and wine are brought to altar, priest repeats the words of Jesus at Last supper over the bread and wine, people say the Lords prayer. In Catholics the sign of peace is given now. people receive bread and wine, priest blesses people and sends them out to live the gospel
      - in united reformed church
        
        service begins with hymn and prayer of thanks. then bible readings and sermon. prayers for the world and particular people. The minister repeats the words and actions of Jesus at the Last Supper. open table so anyone who wishes can receive holy communion. bread is either cut or handed out. wine is often non alcoholic. ends with prayer, thanks, blessing and encouragement to go out and serve God.
