Immedeate Action
Preserving the Crime Scene. This means shutting down the area, and leaving the space exactly as it was found. This could help by discovering the escape route of the killer for example if any windows are open.
Collecting any perishable evidence. This could include the body of the victim. An autopsy could help determine waht happened.
Taking samples. This could include any blood or fingerprints left behind in the crime scene
Gathering any video servailance in the area
Planning the Investigation
Who will be involved ie. which officers or detectives will be needed
What resources will be needed
Collecting Data and Evidence
This can be done by Interviewing witnesses, suspects, or anyone else involved such as family members of the victim.
This can also mean collecting any documents related to the case
Or even gathering any further evidence from the scene of the crime itself such as an impression, or any equipment used.
Analyze the newfound data.
Identify your suspects
Arrest and detain the suspect.
Question the Accused
Search the accused's belongings/living spaces (with a permit) to find any additional evidence or suggestions of a premeditated attack.
