The neighborhood with the most amount of people living on the street causes that neighborhood to becomes dangerous
Causes people to become desperate and steal from stores to make money.
People also start selling drugs to make money, causing more people to start using drugs.
Stealing from stores perpetuates a negative narrative of SF, while also encouraging others to steal as well.
The law that states people stealing under $935 would only count them as petty theft which would only give them a citation and not serious punishments.
Examples like the F.E.A. group who come to S.F. just to rob the stores and vandalize buses and walls. Or the man who stole food and ice cream from stores and sold to others on the streets for quick money
Addiction
Increase in crime rates
Shoplifting is seen as a minor crime now and often times the perpetrators don't get arrested for robbery;
No one stops them so it reinforces their excuse to do crimes
People stealing things from stores and selling those items to gain money; people buying drugs using the money they gained from selling stolen items

Mental health
People with lower income aren't able to get the support they need to improve their conditions
Addiction and dependence on drugs leading to withdrawal symptoms when they are deprived of them or are attempting to quit
Drug misuse can cause changes to the brain's structure and function, making people more likely to develop a mental health condition like depression.
Physical health
Drugs impair coordination and abilities
Heart palpitations, breathing problems
Pharmacies causes people to use medication that causes addition; later leads onto patients using drugs to cope with their needs
Creates Negative Narrative of SF
Cops in the Tenderloin are turning a blind eye on drug abuse and are just there for the increased pay of being in a high crime zone
People flock to SF for the drugs, creating a positive loop.
Kids have to see open air drug abuse daily on their way to school; parents having the fear that their children will one day follow the foot steps of being a drug addict
The government is reinforcing the problems by equipping the drug abusers with materials like clean needles, foil, and other things.

Lack of support for these people cause them to be homeless

Rise of fentanyl in raw form boosted drug dealing
High supply, High demand, Highly addicting
People would come from all over the nation to San Francisco to sell drugs.
i.e. guy from out of state in the video just to do drugs even if he wasn't homeless
Ease of access
No severe consequences from law enforcement so people aren't scared of doing drugs
Sellers on the streets
Easy to purchase and there are no regulations
S.F. provides clean supplies to do drugs
Reinforces drug use and seen as an acceptable thing to do
Drug Cartels in Honduras
Smuggle impoverished immigrants from Honduras as drug dealers to SF to earn money to send back to the drug bosses.

Kids think drugs are ok to do
