How to Treat CHD - Coggle Diagram
How to Treat CHD
Statins
Lower blood cholesterol
If there is less fat in the blood, there is less chance for blockages to cause CHD
May cause muscle weakness/soreness
Tablet taken
Bypass Surgery
Diverts blood around the blockage
Add another vein or artery to direct blood to maintain bloodflow
Take a blood vessel from leg or arm
Not curing or solving CHD, just easing it.
Stents
A tiny device that is inserted into the vessel
It inflates, pushing the fat out of place
It then gets deflated, leaving a scaffold to secure the lumen
Usually inserted in the wrist or groin and pushed to the area of blockage
Heart Transplant
A new heart is given to the person
Lots of risks (last resort)
15 - 20% chance of dying within first year as it is a lot of stress on the body
Rare to get
Body might reject the heart
Has to be functioning and healthy heart
Very expensive
Taken from a recently dead person
