Ponce de Leon describes how he has conquered the Tainos and enslaved Africans. How he has aqcuired large sums of gold,silver and copper. In 1521 he traveled to Florida which he had discovered in 1513 in hopes of finding the fabeled fountain of youth and establishing a Spanish fort. He died that year by a Native American arrow. Juana Briones a medical practioner from Santa Cruz California and the mother of San Francisco discusses how as a child she grew up at a mission. Soldiers would ride by bolstering support for the Mexican War for indepence. At the mission she learned basic medicine and milked cows. Isabel was detained at Ellis Island because Puerto Rico was in a strange gray zone where it is not a state or a foreign nation. She just wants to live with her fiancé in America. There is also the question of if her baby will be considered an American citizen or not puerto-rican-cuban
