STAGES ALONG THE COURSE OF A RIVER
UPPER COURSE (YOUTHFUL STAGE) steep, fast and strong due to the steep slope of the landscape, small river.
MIDDLE COURSE (MATURE STAGE) gentle, mixed; reduction in slope is linked to a reduction in the speed and power in the river, large river.
LOWER COURSE (OLD AGE STAGE) flat, slow and weak as it flows over flat land, very large river.
