Climate Change
COP28
Major Stakeholders:
Kotchakorn Vorrakhom · Ghina Annan · Marta Krupinska · Meghan Edge · Khaled Nageib · Bart Biebuyck · Bradford Willis · Bradford Willis.
controversy
the conference is being hosted in Dubai but they are one of the world's largest oil producers. with plans to increase their oil production.
Who
Business leaders, young people, climate scientists, Indigenous Peoples, journalists, and various other experts and stakeholders are also among the participants.
Major Goals
limit global warming to 1.5 degree increase. inform countries' preparations for revised and more ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions (national climate plans) due by 2025
-
Host
UAE has supported the global climate agenda. Situated in a region where heat is extreme and water is precious. The UAE has long viewed climate change that must be overcome
where are they meeting?
COP 28 refers to the United Nations Climate Change Conference taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 30 November until 12 December 2023.
group demands
The demands at COP28 vary among different groups. Many nations, including the United States, the European Union, and small island nations, have pushed for a "phase-out" of fossil fuels, which scientists say are the biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions driving global warming
Human Affects
Transportation
Most cars, trains, ships and planes are powered by fossil fuels such as gasoline and diesel which release carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas.
Electricity Production
We burn fossil fuels, such as natural gas, oil, and coal, to produce electricity. Generating electricity by burning fossil fuels causes a large chunk of global emissions. We are putting 12x more money into solar and wind power this year than last year.
Industry
many big industries such as the steel industry, use fossil fuels to produce heat for making products. Many big industries create produce emissions.
Home and Businesses
Fossil fuels are burned for heat. Some of the chemicals we use in our homes or businesses, such as the coolants in refrigerators, also give off greenhouse gasses.
-
Agriculture
Greenhouse gases are produced in animals' digestive tracts and emitted into the air. They are also given off when animal waste decays. The decaying of unused plants materials, such as waste from food crops, also produces greenhouse gases
taking action
adaption:
Climate change adaptation is the process of adjusting to the effects of climate change, including both current and expected impacts. It aims to moderate or avoid harm for people and exploit opportunities, while also intervening to help adjustment for natural systems.
mitigation:
Climate change mitigation refers to actions taken to limit or reduce the impact of climate change. This can be achieved by either reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases or removing them from the atmosphere. We predict that in 2030 will be the peak of oil and gas. Since 2010, there has been a 80% drop in cost for solar and wind power. Solar power is now the cheapest form of energy. Last year, only $2.8B was invested into solar and wind power but this year, $37B was invested into solar and wind power
