After 9/11 the united states declared the war on terror where they had attacked the al Qaeda they had invaded Iraq and Iran multiple times after 2001 and NATO was highly relevant being one of the main fighting forces even in Afghanistan
N.A.T.O members have been highly relevant in Israel as they have assisted Israel time and time again to defeat the terrorist state Palestine and Hamas
Global scale
N.A.T.O has served as a protector of democracy and peace as they have helped provide aid to countries in disarray or in conflict but has also projected its power to make sure its enemies know it is not a force to mess with
Formation
end of ww2
After the end of the second world war the united nations and just a few years later the north Atlantic treaty organisation was born NATO was made to promote peace and unity in Europe while also granting protection to all its members from the growing communist threat
main founders
The founding nations of NATO are Belgium the UK the united states Netherlands Italy Portugal and Norway Canada France and Iceland and Luxembourg
Warsaw pact
The Warsaw pact was what caused NATO to become so anti communist as they had done almost everything the soviets had done throughout the cold war
After may 1955 the Warsaw pact the soviet unions version of NATO was formed this was what truly started the cold war they were the arch enemy of NATO and both sides would fight politically and digitally but sometimes even physically
history
21st century
After the September 11th attacks NATO had joined the united states in their operations in Syria Iraq Iran Afghanistan and Palestine
Russia and the CSTO (collective security treaty organisation) were and have been a thorn in the side of NATO as mostly Russia continues to cause conflict and annexation of many innocent nations however the war in Ukraine has allowed NATO to intervene without war and has been absolutely wiping the floor with the Russian state and their CSTO allies
post soviet collapse
After the fall of the soviet union NATO had gone through many changes but also gained many more members and had gone through loads more operations
Cold war
The cold war made up most of NATO history as it introduced most of their events for example the Cuban missile crisis the war in Yugoslavia soviet pressure and communist spies etc
The soviet union and the Warsaw pact were their main foes they were trying to spread communism and tyranny around the world the United states and NATO thankfully made it their job to stop this and were eventually successful
