What are taxes
Governments, just like households and businesses, need to generate income in order to pay their expenses. Most government revenue comes from taxation, which involves the government taking money from people and businesses in order to fund a range of public services. In Ireland tax is collected in the office of the revenue commissioners
Self assessed income tax
Those are self employed pay self assessed income tax. Under self assessment, the taxpayer calculates the tax himself. These returns are subject to regular checks by Revenue, which are called tax audits
