The examination of COVID19 incidence, mortality, and morbidity data is a situation where mixed methods are important to identify not only the numbers of people identified as affected by the virus but also to determine why and how people were affected and who was missed in these counts. Case investigation data from El Paso County Colorado was an example where quantitative data was enhanced through qualitative interview data which showed a more complete picture. Based on political, religious, and other motivations, many residents of our county declined to test for COVID19, declined to seek treatment, and even when hospitalized often refused treatments that could aid in the lessening the effects. This is important when comparing data in other regions where motivations are different because acknowledging the limitations of the data and the areas where qualitative data can fill in the gaps is important to achieving a true comparison (El Paso County, 2020, Khoshnaw et al, 2020, & Brown et al, 2015).
