Gall Bladder
Small pear shaped organ that stores and releases the bile juice
Bile - fluid the liver produces that helps to digest fats in the food
Large Intestine
Wider and shorter than small intestine 1.5 m in length
Absorbing water, produces & absorbs Vitamins, Pushes faeces to rectum
Small Intestine
Long tube like organ connects stomach and large intestine, that absorbs nutrients and water to be used by body. 20 feet long
Digests further food components as proteins, fats, vitamins
Mouth
Mechanical Digestion- Teeth& Tongue breaks down food into smaller particles
Chemical Digestion- saliva produces enzymes
Stomach
Muscular hollow Organ
Gastric juice in stomach breaks down the food and passes to small intestine in small portions
Liver
Controls chemical levels in the blood
Processes blood and breaks down , balances, creates nutrients for the body to use
Pancreas
Produces enzymes called pancreatic juices that helps in digestion
Sends out harmone that controls sugar in blood stream (Insulin)
Oesophagus
Fibrous Muscular tube
Conducts food from Pharynx to Stomach
Rectum
10-15 cms long and 3 inches wide
Collects faeces until its time to release
It relaxes and stretches to accommodate that comes from colon
Anus
Last part of the digestive tract
Muscular ring that opens during bowel movement
