A lawyer by training, Charles Perrault first worked as an official in charge of royal buildings
He was born on 12 Januar 1628 and died 16 may 1703
In 1682, Perrault faced mandatory retirement from his government posts at the age of 56.

Family
He was seventh child of Pierre Perrault and Paqautto Le Clerc
His most notable brothers were the pioneering hydrologist Pierre Perrault and anatomist Claude Perrault
He married Marie Guichon, who was aged 19, in 1672.
