SCREENING TO STRATIFY RISK FACTORS OF HCV INFECTION
Low risk individual
Vertical Transmission (3%risk)
Needle stick injury(3%risk)esp in Health Care Occupation
Male gender with age above 40
Sharing toothbrushes & razors
Iatrogenic (contaminated vaccination needles)
History of (Chronic Hemodialysis, Intranasal drug use, Unregulated Tattoos)
History of Multiple Sexual Partners and Sex with a partner infected with HCV
High risk individuals
IV Drug Abuse (assess whether the patient is actively using drugs)
Unscreened Blood product (ask about the history of blood transfusion and history of blood borne disease)
Alcohol History(ask about how often patient have alcohol)
History of organ transplantation
Other Medical Comorbidities (history of Non Alcoholic fatty liver disease, Alcoholic Hepatitis, Autoimmune Hepatitis, Hemochromatosis, and Obesity)
CO infection with HIV, Hepatitis B and Acute Hepatitis A
Persistently elevated Liver Function Tests (incidental finding)
Chronic HCV infection (55% to 85% of patients with acute infection progress to chronic HCV infection )
Acute HCV infection (more than 80% of patients are asyptomatic)
