Comparative degree
Denotes a higher degree of a quality
Tall - taller (synthetical way)
Beautiful - more beautiful (analytical way)
Happy - happier (y, ow, er, le)
More + adjective
With one-syllable past participle adjectives (bored, pleased, worn)
With fun, real, right, wrong
When we are comparing two qualities (That sea was more green than blue)
To emphasise the comparison
adjectives ending in -ful and -less (e.g. careful, careless)
afraid, alert, alike, alone, ashamed, aware
some other adjectives, including active, cautious, certain, complex, direct, eager, exact, formal, frequent, modern, special, recent
Superlative degree
Denotes the highest degree of a quality
Small - the smallest (synthetical way)
Expensive - the most expensive
Clever - the cleverest (y, ow, er, le)
