        DNA polymerase adds nucleotides in a 5' to 3' direction as it slides forward.

        Okazaki fragments consist of RNA primers plus DNA.
- - - - They grew E. coli in a medium with heavy nitrogen (15N) to label the DNA, then switched to a medium with light nitrogen (14N) and collected samples after each generation.
      - The original parental strands were labeled with 15N, while the newly made strands were labeled with 14N.
