Soldiers
Many soldiers came to New France in an attemp to defend them against the Haudenausaunee and the british.
The king of France wanted Soldiers to settle in new france so he offered officers the job of being a seigneury which could change an officers life.

Fur Traders
Coureur De Bois
This saying comes from how some of the men in New France would take part in the fur trade, "running into the forest" to seek and trade with first Nations.
Coureur De Bois worked independtly which the government encouraged at first but then made it illegal.

Merchants

For extra income, the merchants bought furs from Coureur De Bois and other colonists.
Merchants would ship in goods from France and traded these goods with the the Innu, Ouendat, Anishinabe, and the First Nations for fur.
Voyageurs
These voyageurs travelled between the fur merchants of montreal to the posts of The Great Lakes and eventually further West.

In France, habitants would have been called paysan (peasants), they rarely owned anything and often their seigneurs owned them.

Seigneurs
Most seigneurs were from rich, noble families although women could also become seigneurs.
To keep land grants, seigneurs had to recruit habitants to farm the land.
Seigneurs or landlords who recieved grants from the king of France, owned large plots of land called seigneuries.
