animal adaptions
one animal that has adapted well the tree frogs as they have sticky feet so that they can climb up the smooth trees to escape from preditors
another animal that has adapted well is the sloth which has strong arms so it can cling to trees to hide from predators
one way all animals have adapted to there environment is developing camouflage
impacts of deforestation
economic
farming in particular has brought wealth to many amazonian countries(brazil exported almost £600 million of beef)
the mining industry creates jobs for lots of people (Buenaventura mining company in peru employed over 8000 people)
local brazilian rubber tappers who extract natural rubber trees have lost their livelihoods as trees have been cut down
soil Erosion
brazil is losing up to 100 tons of topsoil per hectare each year because of soil erosion (may lead to landslides and flooding in the future)
with less canopy to intercept rainfall and fewer tree roots to absorb it, more water reaches soil
climate change
trees remove CO₂ from the atmosphere--the amazon stores around 140 billion tonnes of carbon
up to 75% of brazil CO₂ emissions come from deforestation
small scale ecosystems
A freshwater pond ecosystem is made up of a number of smaller habitats - for example at the centre of the pond there are fish where the water is deep
they are often small-scale ecosystems such as ponds, hedgerows or woodlands
commercial farming
cattle ranching - forests are cleared
to make room for the cattle
subsistence farming - cleared for small scaled farmers who need land to grow food for themselves
commercial logging - full of valuable material and need to cut trees down to get them
mineral extraction such as gold silver and iron
causes of deforestation
small scale ecosyetems
a small scale is an ecosystem contained in a relevantly small area but it still has all the key components of an ecosystem
a componat of an ecosystem is
sustainable management of deforestation
we can sustainably manage deforestation by putting national agreements in place and also ban it all together
Ecosystems contain biotic or living, parts, as well as abiotic factors, or nonliving parts. Biotic factors include plants, animals, and other organisms. Abiotic factors include rocks, temperature, and humidity.
