Electrolysis - Coggle Diagram
Electrolysis
-
Basics
-
-
-
How does it work
-
-
The positive ions (cations) move towards the negative electrode (cathode) and are reduced (gain electrons)
The negative ions (anions) move towards the positive electrode (anode) and are oxidised (lose electronse)
-
Half eqations
1) Write the symbol for the positive/negative ion in the electrolyte on the left-hand side of the equation
2) Write the symbol for the neutral atoms or molecules produced on the right-hand side of the equation

Fuel Cells
Chemical cells
Electrochemical cells that produce a volatage across the cell until one of the reactants has been used up
A fuel cell is a chemical cell that's supplied with a fuel and oxygen and uses the reaction between them to efficiently release energy
-
Advantages
-
-
-
Could replace batteries, which are incredibly polluting to dispose
Disadvantages
Hydrogen takes up alot of space to store, and is very explosive
