The Governor also dealt with the external relationship

He was the chief admin of the colony

He looked for the ways to exploit the colony for benefit of France

He worked to keep the colony in good order

The Bishop provided spiritual and moral support, founded school, hospitals and orphanages.

The King wanted the military men to settle in New France

Many men had chosen military career only because they needed a way to make a living

They came to the colony from France to fight and protect with the Haudenosaunee and British

Habitants

Seigneurs

Most seigneurs were noble men but woman and commoners could be seigneurs

To keep their land grants, seigneurs had to recruit settlers or habitants to farm

Seigneuries are large plots of land where seigneurs live

They have to build their own houses

Some habitants neglected their farms because they found the
fur trade an easier way to make a living in New France.

Habitants are people who lived on seigneuries

Merchants

Coureur de Bois

They came from new France and made a living by running into the woods to trade with the First Nations

When the New France government found out about the independent trades they made it illegal, this did not stop them from trading where ever they could even with the British.

Coureur de Bois means runner of the woods

They bought furs from Coureur de Bois and the First Nations for extra income

They imported goods from France and traded it with the Innu

Merchants made a living from fur trade, blacksmith, shoe making, and more
