Bone cysts (Poe) - Coggle Diagram

- - - - a. Aspiration and injection: This procedure involves draining the fluid from the cyst using a needle (aspiration) and injecting medication, such as corticosteroids or bone graft substitutes, into the cavity to promote healing and prevent recurrence. Multiple injections may be required over a period of time.
      - b. Intralesional injection of bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC): BMAC contains cells that can promote bone healing and regeneration. Injecting BMAC into the cyst can stimulate bone growth and facilitate the healing process.
    - - a. Curettage and bone grafting: This is a common surgical procedure for larger or symptomatic bone cysts. It involves making an incision near the cyst, removing the cyst's lining (curettage), and filling the resulting cavity with bone graft material. The bone graft can be autograft (taken from the patient), allograft (from a donor), or synthetic substitutes.
      - b. Internal fixation: In some cases, bone cysts may weaken the affected bone, leading to fractures or deformities. Internal fixation involves stabilizing the bone using screws, plates, or rods to prevent fractures and promote healing. This procedure may be combined with curettage and bone grafting.
      - c. Endoscopic curettage: In selected cases, minimally invasive techniques using an endoscope may be employed to access and remove the cyst's lining. This approach may result in smaller incisions, reduced postoperative pain, and faster recovery.
