Students who are Talented and Gifted

Diversity of Students with Special Needs

95% of 6-21 year old students with disabilities attend regular schools

Students with disabilities are provided special education and services

Exceptional learners include students with physical, mental, or emotional disabilities and students who are gifted and talented

LD: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and reasoning

Speech or Language Impairments: difficulty in communicating woth others

Intellectual Disability: limitation in cognitive ability

SED: social or emotional maladjustment

Hearing Impairment: permanent or fluctuating hearing loss in one or both ears

Orthopedic Impairments: conditions that affect locomotion or motor functions

Visual Impairments: vision loss that inhibits learning

Deaf-Blindness: vision and hearing disability

Autism and Other: Impaired communication and reciprical learning interactions

Ability to manipulate abstrat symbol systems

Power of concentration

Well-developed memory

Early language interest and development

Curiosity

Preference for independent work

Ability to generate original ideas
