Cause - condition triggered by mother drinking too much during pregnancy; foetus highly sensitive to mother's diet when there are toxins or harmful chemicals
Symptoms - prone to heart failure, facial characteristics of a small head (microcephaly), small eyes, low nasal bridge, smooth philtrum and thin upper lip, learning and memory problems, movement coordination impaired
Prenatal exposure to alcohol - fewer neurons, thinner cortex, smaller brain volume, fewer synapses
